Nocturne and Hymn is an excellent senior recital piece, allowing the soloist to demonstrate their virtuoso while inviting their studio colleagues to share the stage. The Nocturne section operates like a dark Mozart concerto, with bold flourishes that give way to melancholy explorations of C minor. The Hymn section pays homage to one of my favorite bands, Pink Floyd, and their famous album, The Wall. The chord progressions from the track NobodyHome are used as the foundation for a beautiful chorale that pulls on the heartstrings.
