Bio
Dr. Russell J. Greene (b. 1990) is an Assistant Professor & Coordinator of Music Education at Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL. He conducts the ASU Wind Ensemble and teaches undergraduate/graduate music education and conducting.
Before his work in higher education, Dr. Greene served as a band director in public and private school settings. As the Assistant Band Director at Oak Grove High School, his marching ensembles performed in the BOA, SCGC, and WGI circuits, securing multiple regional championship victories. As Director of Bands at Trinity Presbyterian School, his marching and concert ensembles received consistently superior ratings at music performance assessments.
Dr. Greene is an active composer and arranger, writing marching band, concert band, and chamber works for schools throughout the southeastern United States. Dr. Greene is a published music education researcher focusing on teacher effectiveness, error detection, and multivariate reasoning. His research contributions are in music publications such as The Journal of Band Research, The Instrumentalist, the Ala Breve, and The Horn Call. Dr. Greene has presented at the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and the NAfME National Music Research and Teacher Education Conference.
Dr. Greene is a member of The National Association for Music Education, the Society for Research in Music Education, the Alabama Music Educators Association, ASCAP, CBDNA, the College Music Society, the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and the International Horn Society.
